Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 15th August, 2015: The Independence was celebrated in a different note at Basundhara, Siliguri. It was not with the traditional fervor of cultural function, songs or remembrance but with games played in the mother nature. The children participated in some homely games and one-day tournaments organized by Basundhara authorities. The main program started from around 12 noon and continued for the whole day and ended with prize distribution and lunch offered to the children. It is to be noted that the children come from local Tea Garden Basti and other vicinity and are from very much downtrodden societies.

Many of the families even cannot provide proper education and food to the children. Basundhara helps those children throughout the year in a very congenial and fruitful environment. Mr. Sujit Raha of Basundhara talked to TNI, “Today in the games organized there were no prizes for the winners because here is not the competition but enjoyment, enjoyment in the natural environment. Fruits were distributed and Indian flags were provided to the children at the end of the celebration. The fruits were grown exclusively here in Basundhara”.
