Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 8th August, 2015: One of the oldest Single Screen Cinema Halls of Siliguri i.e. Urvashi came to a close from yesterday. Thursday i.e. 6th August 2015 was the last show of the iconic Bajgrangi Bhaijaan. The Single screen cinema halls were facing huge losses over the last decade due to reasons like piracy, video CDs, internet downloads etc. Latest was the advent of multiplexes in the city. However, according to reports multiplexes were also not going strong over the years. For Urvashi Cinema Hall it was a historical ride for the Siligurians. Many have grown up seeing various blockbuster shows in this hall. Unlike Kolkata or other cities where the single screen halls were transformed into double or triple screens, that initiative was not seen among the cinema hall owners. Rather, they were more interested in selling off the property or transforming it into shopping complexes with huge prices because the cinema halls are located in the prime locations of the city. When TNI reached the cinema halls no one from the Urvashi Hall owners were present in the spot neither they could be contacted for comment. Local sources said that the property was sold but the authentication could not be verified because of the absence of cinema hall authorities. It is also learned that the staff members were already cleared off their dues before closing. Whatever may be the reason, Siligurians will definitely miss the daily hullabaloo of Urvashi Cinema Hall.
