AGE OLD WATER LOGGING PROBLEM HAUNTING SHIVMANDIR RESIDENTS

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 10th July, 2015: The water logging situation at Sainath More of Shivmandir is problem, which persists more than 10 years now. However, there are no solutions to it as of now. The residents go on complaining without any relief. Nanda Burman a local resident of the area said “We have left our hopes to get any relief from the problem. We see that a little rain leads to ankle deep water logging condition in this area”. Another main problem is the presence of railway crossing. If at all the train passes, the traffic has to remain stranded in the water. Heavy shower leads to submerged condition in the area because there are not drains to drain off the water. This is one of the main route linking South Shivmandir and North Shivmandir. “It’s just like hell, where we are leaving here, neither the Panchayat nor the BDO office have addressed to our problem. In fact, the care taker of this area under BDO office promised to provide regular sweeping services of this area, which never started. Our houses are in a mess especially during the rainy system. We are just living in a very unhygienic condition”. TNI talked with the Matigara BDO Smt. Dipawita Patra in this regard she also expressed her inability to provide proper drainage system here because the area is surrounded by the two major authorities i.e. Railways and the NHAI. She also further said that without the proper cooperation and coordination of the two organizations it’s impossible to provide any drainage system in this area.
