HEAVY RAINS PARALYZING NORMAL LIFE IN NORTH BENGAL PLAINS

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 02nd July, 2015: Heavy rains lashed North Bengal today paralyzing the normal life in three major cities Siliguri, Jalpaiguri and Coochbehar. It was no surprise as the met office of Alipore, Kolkata had predicted heavy monsoon shower in this region as well as in south Bengal in the next 48 hours.
As the summer holidays are over and there were full swing academics in the schools, the students found it difficult to return back home as the rains started in the afternoon period of the day. Office goers and roadside vendors were highly affected due to the rains. Several areas of Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, and Coochbehar experienced temporary water logging due to the clogged drains which are still there till the last reports came in because rain is still continuing. However, rescue teams, which were supposed to reach the multiple landslide-affected hills, remained stranded in Siliguri due to fresh slides in various parts of the hills. It’s a testing time for the newly appointed Corporation and Municipal Boards in Siliguri, Jalpaiguri and Coochbehar to tackle the rain hit areas as of now.
