SNAKE VENON WORTH RS. 100 CRORE SEIZED AT BELAKOBA, JALPAIGURI

Webdesk, TNI Jalpaiguri, 27th June, 2015: A total of 9 pound snake venom was recovered by the police and forest guards at Belakoba forest range. Six alleged traffickers were being caught in the process. From the traffickers 3 sealed containers were recovered from which the snake venom was preserved. It is been estimated that the price of the recovered venom may be around Rs. 100 crore in the International market. It is to be noted that snake venom is of high demand because of its anti cancerous properties. The names of the traffickers who were caught are Rana Ghosh, Ratan Ghosh, Gayanath Roy, Manash Chakraborty, Prasenjit Saha and Asish Kumar Jha. A press card has also being recovered from a caught trafficker named Ratan Ghosh. Most of them stay in Siliguri. According to the police sources, the traffickers were caught in a trap laid down by the police after they got the tipoff that the trafficking may happen. Probably the venom containers were being trafficked to Bhutan and have been brought from France via Bangladesh.
