LEGAL UNAWARENESS CREATING LEOPARD CUB FACEBOOK SELFIE ROW PROBLEMS

TNI News Service

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 23rd June, 2015: Indian minors are very less accustomed with the national law this has been proved in the latest case of posting of a minor from Siliguri posting selfies with a rescued leopard cub in a social networking site. Immediately after posting the photographs with the cub the matter was taken up by a news portal and ultimately became national news. Her father, a range officer of Malbazar forest range under the Forest Department was ultimately show caused by the DFO Ms. Sumita Ghatak for his daughter’s fault. Though, social organizations like HNAF are strongly demanding strong action against the duo for such illegal act and that too in a social networking site. However, the questions are arising from various social circuits whether the college going accused girl is really have committed the fault after knowing the consequences. Mr. Tapati Chakraborty, a retired teacher from Jalpaiguri told TNI that “She might have unknowingly done that because at her age she might be aware of the Wildlife laws and the code of conducts’. So, as a matter of fact, the responsibility lies on the education and social system that they might inform the citizens about the national code of conducts, which might be required to know to avoid the legal problem. Here the girls in question Ms. Binny Sikdar, might not know the legal hurdle, there is a probability that she also can be brought into the court along with her father.

Apology in Facebook by Binny Sikdar for Posting Leopard Cub Selfie after removing those

Despite that she has removed the photos and reposting an apology might not be enough to keep her out of legal problems due to her act. According to an ex-teacher from Jalpaiguri Law College, “When the citizens have to stay with the law throughout his/her life, then it’s better to keep them updated from the junior classes i.e. from Schools. Law can be started from the schools itself to clarify doubts and unawareness among the future generations.”
