VANDAL MLAS DISRUPT KERALA BUDGET SESSION [VIDEO]
Webdesk, TNI Thiruvananthapuram, 14th March, 2015: Yet another unprecedented violence was witnessed by Indian democracy, here at the Kerala Assembly on Friday. The finance minister Mr. K M Mani, who is facing corruption charges was refused to present the budget of Kerala as the Opposition leaders clashed with MLAs of the ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front. The drama started on Thursday night when Mr. Mani and some of his colleagues locked themselves inside the assembly to thwart the Opposition’s attempts to prevent him from entering the assembly to deliver the budget speech.
However, some of the opposition MLAs of LDF also stayed inside the assembly overnight. The incident has been widely criticized by various sections of the society and also by a section of the media. The Doors were blocked; chairs and tables were broken and stood upon. The mics were pulled out and thrown. The Speaker’s chair wasn’t spared either. Security had to be called in to rescue and protect MLAs, who was seen as nonfunctioning bouncers. Meanwhile, the finance minister proceeded to read out parts of the budget. The UDF members and security staff then formed a strong cordon to prevent the Opposition from physically obstructing Mani. MLAs fell left, right and center everywhere. As if all of this wasn’t enough, one MLA was bitten as well. At the end it was not an in-house affair, the protests were widespread outside the House too. The police used water cannons and lathis to disperse thousands of LDF workers who had laid siege to the building. An LDF supporter who had arrived for the protests died of a heart attack. At least nine MLAs were injured in the chaos and many security personnel sustained minor injuries. The visibly upset CM of Kerala Oommen Chandi said to the press “It was a black day for the state. It is a shame the house turned a battleground. It is high time for the angry members to introspect”. The speaker N Sakthan said he would take action against the erring members who destroyed his chamber.
