AWARD SHOWER FOR NORTH SPORTSTARS AT UTTAR BANGA UTSAB

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 21st January, 2015: Former captain of Indian Hockey team, Bharat Chettri, Cricketer Wriddhiman Saha including seven other personalities are going were awarded Banga Ratna by Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee here on 21st January, 2015, however since Wriddhiman is not here for Ranji Trophy, the award will be handed to him later. Apart from this, hundred clubs are getting Rs. 1 lakh each. The clubs, which had received Rs. 50,000 last year, would get Rs. 25,000 after submitting their utilization certificate. 100 poor but brilliant students will get financial aid of Rs. 10,000 each. National Table Tennis Champion Ankita Das has also rewarded with Rs. 1 lakh for his excellent performance in 75th senior National table tennis championships (2014).
Heptathlete Swapna Barman received Rs. 50,000. Apart from this, Guria (Riya) Ray also was given Rs. 20,000 for her impressive performance. Guria (Riya) is a student of Siliguri College and belongs from an economically weak family. She used to take rifles on rent for her practice but still her performance was quite good to inspire other players. North Bengal Development Minister Mr. Gautam Deb also said that to mark the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, on 23rd January, a marathon race will be organized with a cumulative cash prize worth of 31 lakhs.
