STAC WANTS 100 ACRES LAND FOR MODERN TEA AUCTION CENTRE
TNI News Service
Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 23rd May 2014: In view of the visit of the Honorable Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee’s visit at Uttarkanya, the STAC may keep a demand of land of 100-150 acres for developing a modern Tea Auction Centre here in an around Siliguri. A sale of a whopping 107 million kg of tea sales is recorded in the financial year 2013-14. The Siliguri Tea Auction Committee (STAC) plans to celebrate the feat by organizing a ‘charity auction’ on 30 May, followed by various cultural programs. The Funds collected from the charity auction will be donated to the CM’s relief fund. The vice chairman of STAC Mr. Basant Agarwal told TNI that “Since its inception, the STAC has auctioned less than 100 million kg of tea. But it set a record by auctioning 107 million kg tea in 2013-14 out of the total of 300 million kg tea produced in this region”. He also reiterated that STAC is now targeted to handle a capacity of 150 million kg in the future. He also did not forget to mention the worse condition of traffic and dilapidated condition of North Bengal roads for the growth of tea business.
