DALSINGPARA T.E. BADLY DAMAGED IN A 10 MINUTE HAIL STORM

Webdesk, TNI Alipurduar, 14th May, 2014: At least 400 labour quarters on Dalsingpara Tea Estate and tea bushes spread over 100 hectares were damaged during a 10-minute hailstorm yesterday evening. The shate trees were uprooted throughout the area including the SAARC road during the storm rampage. An estimated loss due to the hail storm is around Rs. 60 Lakhs according to the Tea Estate management. According to the Manager of Dalsingpara Tea Estate Mr. N. K. Singh “The hailstorm lasted for only 10 minutes but it was very powerful.” The other areas affected apart from the garden are Gopal Bahadur Basti, Naya Line and Station Line etc. The electric supply is still not there in the area. However, the uprooted trees on the SAARC road were cleared to start the traffic movement again. The BDO Chandra Sen Khati said “We will provide relief to the affected people. Officials of the power department are trying to restore the supply.”
