TNI News Service
Webdesk, TNI Gangtok, 16th March, 2017: Today the students of the Sikkim University organized a peace rally under the initiative of Smt. Rachana Bista, Secretary for Social Service Affairs led by President, Mr. Patrush Lepcha. This peace rally was to express solidarity to the victim of Delhi rape case and also to create awareness that women safety has to be of prime importance. A woman from the hills was brutally gang-raped by five men and the victim had to jump off the balcony from the first-floor apartment in east Delhi on Sunday when the whole nation was celebrating Holi. It is a shame that still in India at the heart of the nation; a raped victim was unable to get any help. There were many passersby but none had helped her. Delhi CM Mr. Arvind Kejriwal has to ensure the safety of girls. This shows that still the North East girls and women are being victimized for their physical stature. SUSA condemns this kind of incidents and asks the nation and government to wholeheartedly take some serious actions against the culprits. Simply by celebrating International Women’s’ Day, girls won’t be safe. This mass solidarity duly signed by all the students of SU will be submitted as a Memorandum to Home Minister Shri. Rajnath Singh and we hope that the government takes some serious steps in ensuring the freedom to girls and women.
